VAR 83 - Brignoles - End of September 1954 - 9 P.M. A tradesman of Brignoles, Mr. R...., returned from Toulon by car accompanied by his wife. The latter, in the plain from Néoules to Garréoult, had her attention drawn by an object of an intense luminosity, planted in the ground, having the form of one of these large cigars which are still used as sign at the fronts of tobaccos/bars. Seized by fear, she begged her husband not to stop. He continued to drive, but a few hundred meters further, he stopped, and noted that the luminous object had disappeared. |
At this time in France, almost all "bar-tabacs", that is to say a shop where you went to buy cigarettes and a newspaper which often was also a bar where to drink a coffee or a beer or a glass of wine, had this signpost nicknamed "a carrot" at their front:
