This short story was picked up by Jacques Vallée in a 1962 UFO bulletin of little credibility, and was then reproduced by others in the next decades. It tells that in Hamburg in Germany, at 4 in the morning in June 1914, Gustav Herwagen opened his home's door and saw in a field a brilliant object in the shape of a cigar with illuminated windows.
Near the craft were four or five 1.20-meter-tall figures in light clothes. The witness allegedly approahed them but they reinstated their craft at once when they realized his presence, a door was closed, and the craft took off vertically and silently.
