UFOs in the daily Press:

THE AIRSHIP STORIES IN THE US PRESS:

The article underneath has been published in the daily newspaper The Mount Clemens Monitor, Mount Clemens, Michigan, Friday, April 30, 1897.

Warning: the airship stories must not be taken at face value as "UFO sightings." Evaluation of such stories is under way here.

The craft that was seen to go down on Lake St. Clair Sunday afternoon [April 24, 1897] is believed to have been the celebrated airship. The ship was plainly seen in this vicinity Saturday evening by hundreds of citizens, and the fact that it has not been seen since lends force to the hypothesis that it is now at the bottom of Lake St. Clair.
